Peterborough

Peterborough is a city of contrasts; with a historic centre and Norman Cathedral, an industrial heritage of transport, heavy industry and engineering and an outer area comprising townships built in the 1960s and 1970s as part of the city’s New Town status. Beyond the townships the local unitary authority’s area includes a rural hinterland with high levels of affluence.

The starting point for this research is Peterborough’s communities. This study will explore the everyday interactions and forms of cultural activities that help to frame participation within the contrasts of the city by using a mix of methodologies.
